I can buy the idea that the brain can be compromised by "low-frequency waves or beams", but "transmit[ting] suggestions and commands directly into someone's thought processes"? Nah. At least definitely not yet.
I've heard of something like this before. I don't know if it actually exists, but here's how it supposedly worked.
Normally you hear sound by vibrating the eardrums, and having (whatever part of your ear) interpret that and send the electrical signals to your brain. This would supposedly bypass your eardrum, and directly stimulate the inner portion(s) of your ear.
In other words, I guess you are correct - it wouldn't go "directly into someone's thought processes". The brain would still recognize it as a sound - not it's own thought processes. But the 'target' would probably feel like someone else' voice was in his head
examples -
A. driving someone crazy
B. faking communication from God
C. actually - any situation where you might want to fake a one way telepathic communication... fake alien encounter, whatever
So you gotta be careful Tirib, in case you ever start hearing those God voices in your head again... it could just be someone messin with ya
:)
