I get that it was illegal, and we have to follow the law and all that, but how does this warrant 5 years in prison? Seriously, I thought that the punishment was supposed to fit the crime. 5 years for enrolling her son in a public school just seems like overkill. Oh, and that claim of $15,000 + in free education is bullshit. They should have used her income to determine how much she would have paid in taxes to support the school if she had lived there. I guarantee it would have been much lower than $15,000. Probably zero or close to it.

Well, the whole system in the US would collapse if everyone actually insisted on his right to get a trial.

90% of all cases are plea bargained, greatly helped by the fact that a DA can pile regulation, on regulation, on regulation on top off each other till you cave in.

Because, lets face it 400 years in jail is no fun at all.

Obviously people who feel that they have no prayer fighting this in court will feel the sharp end of the stick of such a system.

I hesitate to call it a judicial system, it just does not sound right.

It doesn't. It's sad really. People do far worse and get less. The sentence is a crime. Still got to have a little sense of humor sometimes. Geez people.

Corslime should ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY DEFINATELY go to jail.

Why should he go to jail because he takes the 5th?
