I am curious on when to use what for footwear. I am going to cycle trap bar and sumo deadlifts into my next cycle, and I'm wondering if you would recommend Oly shoes for these, or if I should stick with a flatter shoe. I'll be warming up with power snatches, and I hate to be swtiching shoes half way through a workout, but I will if I have to. Minor details, I know, but I'm not sure on the whole deadlifting with Oly shoes thing.

I personally do everything with olympic lifting shoes. If your goal was to perform in a powerlifting meet, yeah, go with flat soles on deadlifts. But if the goal is to train to build muscle, keep the OL shoes. Since you want to improve your OL, get as much of your work done with OL shoes.

I've been thinking about getting some good OL shoes.

I have 3 pairs of NewBalance Ionix which are pretty decent and i use them for everything but sometimes for me they interfere with having good technique when squatting close to 1rm.

I tend to want to distribute more weight on the outside edges of my feet and my older pairs have gotten ripped open from this.

what ct said. unless you are a super wide geared/monolift guy, once you squat in OL shoes you will not want to ever squat in anything else.

Jim Wendler even uses ol shoes too.

i even keep mine on for deadlifts, and i use the deadlift as a low body exercise and want to get as much quad involvement as i can.

I was gonna buy some online, but wasn't sure how they run? Are they something you should be in person so you can try them on? Hate to waste time returning them if they don't fit right.

I have adidas power lift and the fit is true.Like heavythrower said when you squat in OL shoes you will never go back to regular shoes again.I had some knee pain for years after heavy squat days and as soon as i switched to OL shoes it was gone.Plus you just feel more solid and grounded coming out of the hole etc.I pretty much wear them for all training sessions if not them then it's my puma fast cats.

Hey all. Question being we are on topic of lifting in shoes.
I don't squat or deadlift. Gulp. I have my reasons right now At least not for now. I do leg press, lunge , and do standing excercises like standing calf raise , barbell curl, shoulder press.. You know all that good stuff.
Can the Adidas weightlifting or shoe aid in these excercises? Or Powerlifting shoe aid in these lifts? Or is it for pretty muuch squat and all. You know what I mean.
Right now I wear air max 95s. I know enough not to squat on a bubble but right now I'm not.
Thanks guys.

Also. I'm all about building muscle only. Getting heavier in weights is just gravy

Olympic lifting shoes are designed to make it easier to go deep into an overhead squat or front squat to catch a snatch or clean with better balance. They will not help in any of the lifts you mentionned.

Like others have mentioned, once you try OL shoes you don't want to go back, and I also do everything in my OL shoes. I find it easier to keep my weight on my heels in OL shoes which might help slightly in the overhead press as it will give you a more stable feel. Same with push presses - really focus on pushing from the heels and you will get more "push" on your push presses. But like CT, OL shoes won't magically increase your overhead press and will do nothing for the other exercises you mentioned.
