I am trying to decide which of these programs would provide better progress over the long haul. I am at a decent level of strength and have been training for 15 years. I know that most people are going to say that you can't go wrong with either, but I am looking for the opinions of those who have experimented with both. Basically, I am looking for comparisons of the 5-3-1 program that most people know about and a cycle like the following:

Bench Squat
Wk 1: 2x10x240 2x10x335
Wk 2: 2x10x250 2x10x350
Wk 3: 2x8x260 2x8x365
Wk 4: 2x8x270 2x8x380
Wk 5: 2x5x280 2x5x395
Wk 6: 2x5x290 2x5x410
Wk 7: 2x3x300 2x3x425
Wk 8: 2x3x310 2x3x440
Wk 9: 2x2x320 2x2x455
Wk 10: 2x2x330 2x2x470
Wk 11: 2x1x340 2x1x485
Wk 12: 2x1x350 2x1x500

Obviously, in a lot of ways, the two programs are kind of similar. I know that 5-3-1 is built for the long haul, but I also think that a program like above for the bench, squat, and dead could also produce great long term progress. So what do you guys think?

People have made progress on both, just pick one and go with it. When one stops working switch over, etc etc etc.

True dat, that's how the REAL powerhouses do it. First you have to do 5/3/1 so you want to do it first, then switch to Coan deadlift cycle but for EVERYTHING. Then when that stops working(TM) you do Sheiko, and finally you do a Westside/stronglifts hybrid before going back to 5/3/1.
