This is my friend and sometimes coach Willie Albert. He simply has the best squat and deadlift technique I've ever seen. He's kade Webers coach, that 22 year old that totalled 2000. Willie primarily will experiment in his off season with different loading paramaters, but doesn't stray from the core lifts and does light assistance work, then peaks for meets using the extended russian power routine. He's been doing this for years.

I don't exactly know Willies training history, but he started as a weightlifter, then moved into powerlifting, I know he's done all the sheiko routines, but mostly tinkers with russian power, ie sometimes he'll do it with chains, sometimes he'll pull from a box, etc etc.

Willie is an all around athlete and can excel in crossfit, he can do muscle ups with ease and iron crosses and all that stuff. He's a super freak.

I wanted to show him slam dunking this 550 squat at 181.

This is him pulling 727 at 181, he didn't get the lift, but he should have.

And this is my favorite squat Willie has ever done. I've never seen such focus before, he's completely calm and ready to do what he's gotta do. He's wearing knee wraps so not totally raw, and he squatted 625ish in competition after this.

And this is Willie squatting 405x18... that's just nutso. The crazy part is when he did this, he'd taken time off lifting to let injuries heal and was focusing on crossfit.

If you guys have any questions, I'll do my best to ask Willie and see if he'll answer them

Nice, I was watching some of his Sumo videos to learn the technique. Great lifter. Where's he from?

Apparently he didn't get his hips thru enough, it was at Worlds, so the judges were being dicks.

He's planning on lifting again this year at RUM6... so I'm really excited to see what he does

Weber, Albert and Nera are all super impressive! You're lucky to keep such good company.

actually for a long time I didn't take advantage of them at all, I refused their help and instead wanted to do it all on my own, no matter how many times I fell on my face.

I was young, insecure and stupid... I see it all the time in guys I coach now.

Lately though Willie has been kind enough to help me out here and there, and anytime I do what he says it opens my eyes up to something completely different

That must be very frustrating in retrospect, but better late than never, right?

It seems like those guys are developing a pretty prestigious roster up there, though

Hey man, I wouldn't change a thing, but I would have been more diplomatic so I didn't burn so many bridges. I'm happy with the way I did things, and I really like where I'm at right now. I'll be lifting until I die, and you get stronger till your 40's so I'm really not too worried.

Willie has 4-5 young lifters that are really coming into their own, and are already very high level. Here's one of the girls he's coaching: she's unbelievable.

Oh my God, I hope she's squatting straps down and suit slippers, because if she's squatting in lulu's (raw), then I hate myself.

he really opened my eyes up to how effective a training program Russian power was, and all the different ways you can tweak it.

As well, Willie got me to squat 6 days a week for 5 weeks, 1 week of 10 singles with 405 and the next a max, then up the singles 10lbs the following week.

He did that so I'd relearn how to squat and ditch my quasi multi ply sit back squat. I learned more about my squat and my body doing that than anything I've ever done. It was also the most painful thing I've ever done, I can't even explain how brutal it was.

As well as I just get him to check my form every couple months by offering to buy him lunch if he comes to train with me. Everytime we sit down, he blows me away with his programming knowledge, but now we rarely even talk about powerlifting, we mostly just shoot the shit.

Awesome lifting, thanks for the vids.
Squaters booty is in my personal top 3 favorite types of booty.
Always love the walk out of the monolift too.

He'll just stand up out of the mono sometimes, but it's a bit of a point of pride in him.

don't beat yourself up man, that young lady has had perfect instruction from day one, from a wildy experienced lifter who's probably the best lifter in Canada.

But that's what happens when you're smart from the start.
