The Strongest Gym on the Planet
by Chris Shugart

Would you have the balls to train at a gym where screaming in pain and puking are everyday occurrences?

I would LOVE to see the list of hardcore gyms database. My last gym started getting TOO foofy, so I had to switch. My gym now is half/half. They have a full size boxing ring, and mat space for wrestling/martial arts, and a whole section of hanging heavy bags, so the martial artist in me is content. They have one "sort of" half rack, basically a squat rack with saftey catches that hang on the hooks instead of go through holes, and the spacing is about 4 inches or more.

Dumbells go to 125, which works for me, for now, but I'm already doing Kroc rows for 18 reps with the 115's. It won't be long before I out grow what we have there.

Articles like this make me think I should buy a prowler and put out an open call to all the Massachusetts T-Nation members for weekend mayhem...

This is not in relation to the article so sorry, but where is Shugarts Hammer gone? I loved his blog, damn it!

Hey, thanks! The blog is alive and well with 3x per week updates right here: http://velocity.tmuscle.com/...&s=forumsNavTop

It's now part of VelocityLife.com, which is still part of the Testosterone Muscle / Biotest gang.

My gym provides lots of magazines to read. Mostly People. I wasn't kidding about Dave's gym's reading material...

The EliteFTS day care center is lovely, by the way. Lots of rocks and barbed wire for the kiddos to play with.

The most kick ass nd entertaining article in a long time!!!!!!!! Makes me realise just how NOT hardcore I actually am when it comes down to it, no matter how much I may think I'm giving 100 percent.

"Someone brings Leanne a cup of Anaconda and she's up and around a few minutes later."

^^^^ Had to slip in an Anaconda reference somewhere, hehehe! ;)

Thanks!

Yeah, the Anaconda thing actually happened. I actually have about 20 pics of PILES of Biotest supps laying around Tate's gym.

Oh well, at least I didn't slip in the "everyone loaded up on Spike Shooter then attacked the Prowler" line... That would have just been too much! Hee hee.

I wish there was something remotely close to this gym in my area. I am nowhere near an «Elite» level lifter (not even close), and I am one of the strongest guys in my gym...I suggested to the gym owner that she purchase a yoke bar or a fat bar, and she said that she would rather invest the money in a new cross-training machine. I once suggested that she get rid of the Smith machine and get a second power rack; she said that the Smith machine was much safer, and that she would never get rid of it...sigh...

Tate and Biotest head honcho Tim Patterson have discussed creating a database of these gyms. Why? Because one day you might walk into your gym, look around, and realize that you're no longer welcome.

Well written. Are Tate and Patterson worried that their gyms will become flooded with average folk?

"the thump, thump, thump of the base"... this should be "bass" not the fish but the instrument. Sorry for being critical I am a musician and enjoyed all the references. Spinal Tap... 11. Beautiful. Wow. This article was awesome... really encouraging stuff and inspiring to take it to the next level whereever we are. Spike!

You spelled bass wrong.
