Haven't posted much in forever but thought I would throw this up for fun.

About a month ago I competed in a "Warrior Challenge" which consisted off:
Bike Ride for distance in 5 mins
Max Pull-Ups in 2 mins
Deadlift for reps in 2 mins (Weight was either 225 or 315 depending on your weightclass)
Tire Flip for reps in 2 mins

So I train mainly for powerlifting and I was competing against a ton of crossfitters and warrior gym people.

My results:

Bike ride- no clue on the distance but I think I came in 2nd to LAST lol oh well
Pull-ups- 49 (3rd or 4th)
Deadlift (225)- 54 reps (2nd, some asshole did 62 haha total beast)
Tire Flip- 32 times, (3rd place on this)

So overall I had fun and didn't do half bad given I rarely go over 10 reps of anything in training and do min cardio.

Just proving not all powerlifters are fat and slow :)

My next powerlifting meet will be in May and my primary goal is to hit a 600 pound deadlift at 198. I have done this is the gym but now time to do it on the platform.

That's really good for an "off the couch" event.

Thanks! It was a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon

54 reps in two minutes? Awesome man. How was your form towards the end? Mine starts to break after anything into double digits.

Form was good on the first 30 or so, then I would say they turned into stiff leg deadlifts haha

Go get back in a boat.

As a side note I'm thinking about crossfit games one of these years - I figure the rowing/powerlifting combination would allow me to be extremely competitive in it especially considering crossfit people can't seem to row for shit.

Where's your next meet at?

Hahaha man I haven't been in a boat in years, I bet my form and timing would suck!

I highly suggest training with these crossfit people before doing one of their comps because they have crazy rules/form. Prime example, apparently a "correct" pull-up basically involves a ton of swinging and kicking. I just did normal bodybuilding type pull-ups and as a result I wasn't as fast so I did less in the time limit.

Next meet will likely be in Fort Lauderdale although I am also eyeing one in Orlando.

It comes back faster than you'd think. We put a few alumni boats together last year at Head of the Hooch and it went pretty well, definitely enjoyable, and more enjoyable to go out drinking and eating with a bunch of guys I hadn't seen in years.

I've watched videos of some of the competitions and most of it is laughable in terms of what they consider proper technique. I'm not too worried about it but I'll definitely try and get to a gym and check it out prior.

I never understood the whole crossfit pullup thing until I learned muscle ups and the beauty of kipping. If I am out doing a run and I hit the fitness park in the middle I will do some kipped pullups/muscle ups, if it is back day at the gym, slow weighted pullups only.

Those are great results, how was your back feeling the next day? I did 35 reps of 225 in the gym the other day (first time going over 10 reps in deadlift ever probably) and I feel nearly crippled today with DOMS. My entire posterior chain is suffering, but it feels great.
