So I have been able to workout consistently for about a year (10.5 months to be exact), with the great focus being on getting some back thickness. I never really had trouble getting wide, but for some reason or another the thickness never settled in. It's starting to and I just thought I would log the progress in here. Wish I had some before pictures to compare to. I think if you search my name I have an old post a few years back though. Stats as of now are 6'1.5", 252lbs. I just started cutting down after a very long 8 month bulk.

I think you made a mistake not trying to get wider.....

Can you elaborate on that please? I think you are right though because I naturally have a very wide waist (hip bones), in that regard the width certainly will be needed. I just felt that I really lacked any thickness.

well without any comparison pics we cant really say how successful you were, you could do with some more width aswell as thickness though, you do have wide hips for starters, but also there just isnt much lat going on

Just as an FYI, in the second pic I am not spreading lats out purposely, instead I was focusing on retracting the scapula. It may not be obvious but I have scapular dyskinesia on the Left due to poor rehab after an old slap lesion repair.

The Beard in 3/29/08
http://tnation.T-Nation.com/...thread/1935218/
-------------------------------------------------
I would say in the last 4 years you have made some improvement. It's hard to say if focusing on the back has paid off though without more recent back shots.

Oh God, if you think I worked out for 4 full years and that's all the improvement I got I should quite working out all together. I basically stopped lifting a few months after that 08 photo due to grad school/just got married/just had first kid, so yea life got in the way big time and I needed to adjust. All the improvement was done in the last 10 months. I will, however get up some more comprehensive and up to date shots so that I could log the progress in here every couple months.

It will take a lot longer than 1 year to build a truly impressive back. It is great you stuck with it for ten whole months....but I think more would be impressed with the progress made over ten years.
You are a tall guy so you will have to fill out way more.

Of course, I definitely understand that. I just wanted to have this as a kind of "log" for progress with pictures. I always somehow end up losing my before/after pics due to nephews/cousins toying with my computers. But for sure I am in this for the long run, as anyone who wants serious results has to be.

Who the fuck has the time to train for 10 years straight??? Usualy life gets in the way, unless you are trying to go pro.
The guy has got some mass... Just needs to cut and he will be looking good.

Clearly I overestimated the drive and motivation of many here.
Good luck to all of you who think you will look "extra-ordinary" with ordinary effort.

Airtruth, I'm not only working on back if that's what you thought I meant. I'm just hitting it with more volume and intensity than chest due to the fact that it's always been a weak point of mine.

yeah its amazing what people think is hard work, hell the longest ive taken off is one month due to a pinched nerve and i was fucking pissed just taking that off. Literally not hard to make an hour every day to train, even less if the time calls for it. Kids i train with miss 1+ days a week and then wonder why the progress is so slow.... o i cant bench 225 yet, o i ve been trying for 1 month.... yeah go consistant for 6 months is even a longshot for alot of ppl.
