srsly, since they're still as small as a cat, it'll take a generation for them to become actual weapons.
I get that the dragons ushered in some magic into the world, and that has made some difference, but it's a story bout Dragons, right?
<shakes head>
No
got it - after watching the season finale, it looks like the show is about Zombies~
thanks for clearing that up, DJ~

SPOILERS/THEORY
I think I mentioned before in this thread or another but....I highly doubt Jon Snow is dead.
1. He is too important of a character.
2. GRRM usually only kills off main characters that have never had the story narrated from their 1st person view. Example: We never saw the story from Robb's 1st person view and I can't remember if it was the same for his dad Ned.
Now I fully believe that Jon Snow could die in this series I just don't think he is dead yet. I think either he is saved by Ghost, the Red Priestess whose name I can't spell, brought back to life by the Red Priestess, or ends up permanently skin walking into Ghost and he loses his human body.
Now I realize that quite a few of us are split on whether we think Dany will become a good ruler or not. There is a very important point that is being overlooked. She is barren. So even if she takes the Iron Throne who gives a shit? She can't have an heir and if she appoints somebody that isn't a Targaryaen(sp?) then there can be another war for the Iron Throne arguing the validity of her heir. So what is the fucking point of going to war and having thousands of people die for a line of succession that could end with the first person? It's so stupid that she thinks she has the right to rule because she is a Targ. The way you come into power is by taking it and keeping it. The Targs had a nice run but in the end they couldn't keep their power so they lost it. In the end she is just a dumb, spoiled, murdering whore. The sad thing is she hated her brother but she has a lot of his characteristics and flaws. She isn't retardly cruel but she still delusions of grandeur, a belief that she knows best, and that she is better than everyone else no matter how much she tries to save them.
I hope Arya starts cappin mofos in the next book. Also, it should be apparent that Bran is going to skin walk the dragons.
SPOILERS
Since he killed off Ned in the first book and Ned had a first person narrative I think all bets are off as far as him killing off major characters are concerned. I do hope the Red Priestess brings Jon back honestly if he's gone then Arya and Tryion are the only ones left to root for in my opinion.
I didn't even consider that aspect about Dany, good points raised. I think Aegeon(sp?) is the only true hope the realm has but I suspect he'll be dead or horribly disfigured during the attack on Storms End.
Who here thinks that Valarya was hit by a Meteor? The entire description of how it was destroyed (The blast being able to be seen all the way in Westeros, fire and Brimstone raining down in Bravoos and Pentos etc.)
I think it will be Tryion and maybe Jon riding the other two Dragons to take back Westeros, OR The Dragons @ Dragon Stone will come back to life. Then all bets are off

I was waiting for the second season to start reading the books. Now I got all of them ready, so I wanted to go with the third because I really want to start progressing with the story. I start to read and I'm like, totally lost. So I randomly read things from the second book and I have no idea what is going on.
I finally decide to read a synopsis (from wiki) on the second book and...what the hell did they do with the show? It's like, totally different!
So I'm not sure if go with the third or re-read everything from the beginning...
What a mess.

Might be a stupid question, but if one were to start reading the books, where should you start?
I mean including the novellas, I know where to begin with the novels, but I'm not sure about these ones.
https://en.wikipedia.org/...of_Dunk_and_Egg
or are they there own story?
I'm not sure where they fit in as far as order goes.

You can read those but they are stand alones and don't have anything to do with the series. There are actually some decent comics that he put out as well.
Start with Game of Thrones then follow the list on the inside cover =p
Spoiler/Theory
Valarya being hit by a meteor is plausiable. Honestly, I never even spend time thinking about Valarya.
I wonder if they are going to talk about Bronn being made a lord and marrying that one lady that was raped by like 100 dudes during the riot. I always thought that part was pretty humorous. Not that rape is really funny but that fact that he is all cool with it so he can become a lord.
It's been voiced previously in this thread but I completely agree that I don't like the way they are portraying Robb and his new wife, or Tyrion and Shay's relationships. It has been a while since I read the books but I never got the since that Tyrion was in love with Shay. She was always "his" whore and he loved her as much as a man can trust a whore but he didn't "love" her. If anything I don't think he was really that surprised that she betrayed him during the trial. Upset and slightly hurt by it but not unexpected. Finding her later with his father was the true betrayal. I can't even begin to imagine how weird some of the Tyrion/Shay/Tywin threeway fanfic is. Finally, I really hope that Shay starts calling Tyrion her giant of lannister like she did in the books. That part always had me roflcoptering.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks that Jon is dead. Multiple characters have come back from endings phrased exactly as Jon's in ADWD. Tyrion's drowning is very similar, and Asha's was close. Brienne is a little more iffy, because who knows if she is actually alive, undead, being mimed by a Faceless Man, whatever. But The wording of Jon's demise leaves it open for anything, really. And it's not even unrealistic given how often people survive stabbings.
On Dany, I'm not convinced she really is barren. I also don't get the overwhelming hatred people have for her, either.
I love Essos and its history, which is one of the reasons I loved ADWD. Every Tyrion and Dany chapter was filled with new information on the continent. If Martin weren't so old and unhealthy I would hold out hope for A History of Old Valyria or some such text, but I don't think that's ever going to happen.

I won't speak for everyone else, but I'll tell you why I dislike Dany. She starts off being an abused little girl that is in constant danger. Ok that's a little sad so we like her in the beginning. Then she slowly comes around to having confidence, self worth, and a strong belief that she can go home to liberate her people. That's great this girl is turning into a woman and is going through a positive transition.
Then she comes into power and just constantly fucks things up as a leader. She has constant temper tantrums, believes she has the right to rule westeros, believes that her sense of morality is the correct one and should be forced on others, and she constantly chooses the incorrect time or issue to be decisive about.
That being said she is a wonderful and believable character but just not very like able because she is very flawed. To me she seems like a mixture of her brother Viserys, Cersei, a touch of Sansa's naivety, and the bleeding heart of the crazy cat lady down the street that takes in any and all strays. She hated her brother so much but she has become like him. She isn't as cruel as her brother and Cersei but she has their delusional out look. She deserves this, she knows best, all of these people are out to get her, if they don't agree then they are evil or ignorant, etc.
Lastly, she is just one giant hypocrite. The biggest being that she wants to free the people of Westeros but in doing so she is forcing 10's of thousands of people to die so she can come into power and be their savior. But, she is fucking barren. Now you may think she isn't barren but at this point in time no matter how much baby batter gets injected in her she isn't pregnant. Also, she believes she is barren. So why the fuck would you have 10's if not hundreds of thousands of people die for you to come into power when their will be another war for the throne when you die? Nobody will accept a non-bloodline heir unless they are next coming of Jesus and are loved by all. Now there are some other Targs in play but does she even know about them? Nope, so in her mind she is the last/only. So ladies and gentlemen I present to you your culture destroying, plauge loving, tantrum throwing, delusional, indecisive, weak, harlot of a savior Danerys Storm-born Targareyn the Mother of Dragons *cheers* *whistles* *face palms*.

Two things:
Firstly, I finally watched te season 2 finale... So sweet! I'm already looking forward to season 3.
**SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T READ ADANCE WITH DRAGONS**
Also, just read the chapter where Danny finally rides Drogon. That 3 page part where he swoops down, reeks havoc and then she rides off on him was probably the most bad ass part of the entire series so far. Definitely need A LOT more of that.

DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT STARTED A DANCE FOR DRAGONS!
So I was in class today and as usual we were doing nothing. I pulled out a dance for dragons, and was at the part where you learn the young Griff turns out to be little Aegon. Dead silent classroom, I jumped out of my seat and exclaimed "HOLY SHIT!" I'm not even sorry.
Milar reaction.
I had a similar reaction. The only thing left is for Jon to find out about his Targaryen heritage. Then the trinity will be complete.
Why do you say he's Targaryen? I was thinking he was a Baratheon... Curly black hair like Robert.

You are confusing the books with the show. He is more Stark-like in apperance than any of his siblings, even Arya.

Gotcha, couldn't find any of his descriptions... although it would make sense if he was really the Targaryan heir, Aegon being part of Vary's scheme, considering Ned brought him home as a baby right after the war.

SPOILERS FOR DANCE OF DRAGONS
Am I the only one who thinks Stannis is still alive? Bolton sent Jon the raven saying his entire host was dead but he also wanted Reek and his bride back - both of which were at Stannis' camp. I'm thinking Mance made a deal or something...

I believe so the Theon chapter GRRM released from winds of winter make it seem like Stannis is in a good position. And at the very least i believe Roose is dead since i doubt a living Roose would allow Ramsay to write the letter.

I would start with book 2. The first season follows book 1 pretty much verbatim. Season 2 strays from book 2 quite a bit, but the main elements are basically unchanged. Everyone ends up being where they need to be and doing what they need to do for the story to advance in the same fashion.

The only thing major i noticed change that could cause problems from the story is the Cleftjaw knocking Theon out instead of Ramsay capturing him.

I know HBO can be racy, but I must have missed the memo about how it's now a porn channel.
I got my mom and husband to read the books with me. I'm on book 3 now so I thought it might be fun to see how HBO brings the characters to life. I've watched about 5 of the episodes now. SHEESH! There is NO WAY I can talk to my mom about the TV series. She'd be over here washing my mouth out with soap.
And the books are starting to make me feel like I'm being strung along. I think he's planning to write 10 or 15 of these. So much action but nothing ever gets resolved. I thought at least some of the Stark family might be coming back together by now. That said, Tyrion is a great character so I kind of keep reading just to get back to the chapters about him.
