Going back to 2005 for this one. Rome from HBO. Just finished watching both seasons. If anyone missed this, highly recommended.

X2 Rome was good.

x3, so pissed it was only 2 seasons long. That and Deadwood both ended way too soon. I guess it's better that way than having them go the way of The Sopranos though.

X4
Rome was damn near perfect. The Wire went one season longer than it should have. It went 5 it should have stop at 4 and it would have also been perfect.

Nice to see fellow fans.

From what I read, the budget was too high so they had to abbreviate it into two seasons. Three seasons and it would've been near perfect IMO.

Bit of trivia. Ray Stevenson, the actor who played my favorite character, Titus Pullo, in Rome has a small role in the Thor movies. He plays one of Thor's friends. He also played the Punisher in the second one, Punisher: War Zone. I actually think he made a really good Punisher.

He was also in the second G.I. Joe movie as firefly (I think that's the name). I enjoyed Punisher Warzone for what it was.

Watched Event Horizon for the first time.

Not great, but the concept and acting talent actually did provide some genuine scares

I agree. Far too overrated, IMO.

The concept was so great, and it had such incredible potential, but fell flat about 2/3 through.

I was really hoping the ending was going to turn it up to 11 and have a horrifically dark and sick finale.

But man, naked Sam Neil covered in blood and crucifix carvings will always stick in my mind.

Definitely one of Paul W.S. Anderson's best films.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was outstanding. Caesar is now one of my favorite characters of all time. What a badass.

This has been a great summer for movies. Still have Hercules, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Sin City upcoming too.

Finally saw Fist of the North Star... never seen so many exploding heads in one flick. Though, I would have appreciated more brutality, as opposed to just violence, if that makes sense.

Caught Sorcerer:

Needless to say, It's not actually about sorcery (I believe it's the type of truck they use). Good flick. Pretty suspenseful, even if the stakes are a bit more subdued compared to today's movies (life/death vs. fate of the world). Plot moves along, goes slow where it needs to and fast where it needs. Acting was good, though Roy Scheider overacted occasionally, as he tends to do. It could probably be 10 minutes shorter, as the beginning tends to drag-on with setting up the character's history, which doesn't make that much difference to the story... don't be discouraged by the subtitles. They only last about 15 min.

It's actually a remake of an old French movie, which is supposed to also be really good, but I haven't seen.

Overall, I enjoyed it. I wouldn't watch it with my girl or anything (there's hardly any women in it at all).. but as a dude taking it easy... good stuff.

Also saw Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. I thought it was pretty good. I kind of liked the first one better with James Franco.

Also watched the movie Snowpiercer with Chris Evans. It was an interesting movie and idea. I really enjoyed it.

"Devil"
A supernatural "whodunnit" thriller by M. Night Shyamalan. One of his better pictures.
Five people share a stalled elevator, and the devil is present.
Creepy and suspenseful.

^ Devil was pretty good.

Watched Son of Batman over the weekend. It was decent, but could of been better.

Also re-watched HotFuzz... Hilarious!

Blindness

Another survivalish movie in the genre of the divide and the road. That being said, it's well made and entertaining. It's not as good as the road or as extreme as the divide... with the standards you see in these types of movies, though no cannibalism.

The trailer explains the plot. I liked it and I suggest you check it out, but not w/ your girl.

I had forgotten about this one. Thought it looked pretty good but never got around to watching it. Might have to check it out.

Yeah this one is very good. I'm not sure how I stumbled onto it, but I remember it being one of the better post-apocalyptic movies I've seen.

Saw Hercules last Friday. It was ok, but could have been a lot better with a better director. Worth a rental when it comes out, not much more.
