Finally watched Paranormal Activity 3. It is definitely better than the other two and the lead actress looks way better. They will have to explain how you these girls don't remember any of that shit if they make another one or expand on the mythology they've now created, but I have to say it wasn't a waste and rarely does the third movie in a series top the first two.

Yeah, I have, and the third one sank the franchise. It was the WORST of the series and took the focus off Blade and tried to pin it on that studio's hope for a spin off...which failed.

Like I said, it is rare that the third movie in a series is better than the all the previous.

+1 billion to Raid: Redemption. Probably the best action movie I've ever seen in terms of keeping me absolutely entertained.

I watched this at the weekend, and was very pleasantly surprised. I was expecting an entertaining survivor film, and was impressed by the slant on the motivations for continuing and the lengths a man will/can go to before giving up.

I thought the ending was very satisfying too: both poignant and rousing. I sort of saw it coming from the moment they set off though.

Hmm, good point.

I'd probably only give that to LOTR: TRothK and Toy Story 3.

But I'd have to assume the Blade thing was said ironically...

Good taste in movies.

We should form our own movie critic site and relate it to weightlifting. Trust me....tank tops, big booty hoes and squats...there will be no stopping us.

That was jacked up. It was bad. But my vote for saddest has to go to Grave of the Fireflies.

That was rough, i dont know if it was the art style or the occasional break from mind numbing depression, but plague dogs still takes the prize for most soul crushing movie for me anyways.

Oranges and Sunshine - A social worker uncovers the illegal mass deportation of 'orphaned' kids from England to Australia. Many of the orphans had at least one known parent and siblings but were handed over to organizations where some were sexually abused. Based on a true story, Hugo Weaving and David Wenham are outstanding support as two 'orphans' who have learned to close themselves off from their emotions and the world.

Guaranteed to turn T-Men into tear men.

Pretty slow weekend waiting for pay-day so I watched a few films. First this:

then I found out it was a sequel so I watched the first one:

Really good films about the violence and corruption in Rio's slums. I haven't rooted for a character in a while like I rooted for the protagonist in Elite Squad 2. I'm glad I watched the sequel first, as it was interesting to then go back and see where the characters came from. You'll like them if you liked City of God.

The above film was pretty depressing. Some great shots of California and was fun seeing how much drink and drugs they consume, but I watched it on a Sunday night before bed and wished I hadn't. Probably not one to watch if you're having a mid-life crisis.

I was glad I watched this, though:

Recognisable working class characters (although it's set a bit before my time), and although it gets a bit trippy in the second half its a good story about how little effort it takes for a good kid to turn bad.

Watched 21 jump street this week, one of the funniest films i've seen in a long time. Seriously, recommended to everyone, kinda like superbad in style of humour. I literally laughed out loud and that doesn't happen often to me in the cinema,

On another note off to watch the avengers this afternoon,

The Raid was only just released here this weekend and I just got back from seeing it.

Holy. Mother. Of. God.

I don't even know what to say. It's been so long since I've seen such a good all balls no brains movie.

See it. SEE IT!!!

Saw Prometheus last weekend(didn't find any reviews on it around here).

Very shit movie, major disappointment.

**SPOILERS**
The whole 'same-symbol's-in-cave-paintings-across-the-world ' concept was cool, but after that, the movie sucks the suckiest suck. ''Not a map, an invitation''. What the hell?!?!?! That's one major leap to be making there. And why the hell was the primary male human(Charlie?) an uninterested and incompetent drunk? When the two guys who got lost in the temple due to the storm, why on in the name of God did they wander around aimlessly and start poking at things. When you get lost, the first rule to to stay still. Anybody with basic scouts training knows this but the top-scientists on a trillion dollar exploration trip to a new planet don't?

And it turns out that Weyland is on the ship and the captain is his daughter(dun-dun-DUN!!). And despite the fact that Weyland is a multi-trillionaire with access to any and all technology that they could wish for, they decide to impregnate the main character with an alien? Even though they were able to place fully grown humans in suspended animation for over 2 years without issue? Right....

So they find a humanoid guy who's asleep. So they immediately decide to wake him up to check what the purpose of the temple is. Uh, ok. Again, possibility of suspended animation or how about not just walking up to him with a frail 300 year old man and demanding answers. So it's now determined that the big white guys don't like humans(for a never really explained reason other than they just don't or something) because he's now knocking the shit out of anyone he can see. So the main character does the only sensible thing anyone has done in the whole film, she runs away. Meanwhile the big dude has got into some 'ship' that looks like a Warhammer gun and is now going to destroy the earth so they crash the only method of transport into him(pretty badass to be fair).

But the big white dude survives the kamakaze and attacks the main character. But then some fuckiing huge ugly alien thing is in the escape pod somehow and it attacks him and that's the last we see of him.

Then the main character survives(again! Oh, it's because she believes in God, right?) and goes to find Fassbender's head so that they can go to the planet of the giant white dudes to ask them why(because that worked so well the first time).

Shit movie is shit.

The movie was similar to the trip itself. Expensive, good idea in theory but idiotic in execution.

Visually stunning though.

**Quality of review tailored to meet quality of movie**

I'm all about suspending my disbelief to enjoy a movie but I lack the ability to throw it in the bin, setting it alight and pissing on it.

^ I agree. Ridley Scott once said that there's an element of luck to making a great movie. Somebody must have broken a mirror during pre-production. Either that or the suits at Fox were too busy tripping over their own tongues at the thought of a new franchise that they forgot to include anything of substance in this movie.

Everything that was promised by the great series of virals (which are far better than the movie itself) seemed have been sent off to the Engineer's home planet in anticipation of a sequel where something worthwhile happens.

That said, Elba and Fassbender were great. Dan O'Bannon was missed.

It's not a complete turkey; there are a smattering of good moments, but it's way below what you'd expect Ridley Scott to do with the subject matter. The questions posed in the virals about purpose, life and existence don't get answered. Well, they DO (in a sense) but not in a way that justifies the decision to go back and explore what the Engineers are after all this time. They aren't very interesting.

But yeah, unless you want to get blown away by surprisingly immersive 3D (there's hope for it yet) catch it on DVD.

Its not as horrible and simple-minded as Jereth makes it out to be (Lot's you overlooked, bud)It's worth seeing it however you like...in the theater(which I enjoyed in 3D)..or at home.

***SERIOUS SPOILER***

I've noticed that some of the harshest critics of the film...seemed to not pay attention as to how the giant facehugger ended up in the escape pod. It was the same alien Shaw removed in the chamber with the automated surgery unit. If you can't connect the dots with that...then of course other elements in the film will not make sense.

***END OF SERIOUS SPOILER***

That wasn't a perfect movie(even Alien had mixed reviews on par with Prometheus)...BUT it belonged more so than any Alien universe-related movie in recent times. I think people set the bar too high in their mind thinking this was DIRECTLY about Xenomorphs,etc...and expected EVERY single thing to be answered in one film.

Apparently...the screenwriter,Lindelof, has stated that answers to some elements were withheld for reason: a sequel. More will be explained about the space jockeys...this is a story line that will run parallel to what happened in Alien franchise.

http://comicbook.com/...damon-lindelof/

Just go see it...it's still better than 98% of space terror,sci-fi type movies in many years.
