Has anyone ever had problems with the townies? A couple of for instnaces:

A guy in my shop is actually from here. He said that in high school most of the girls' only goal was to marry a GI and get out of here. And I've heard stories of the 'GI trap.' You're well into what you think is a one night stand when she wraps her legs around you to prevent you from pulling out.

But as much as the girls want us around, it's the exact opposite with the men around here. "You're taking our jobs/women/property!" The only fights I've been in since I got tioned here were with townies who really don't like the military.

Anyone have anything similar?

Dey terk er jerrrrbs!

A local in Norfolk told me they don't like enlisted and do like officers, but that's an anecdotal sample size of 1 so I wouldn't put much weight on it.

I can say I encountered that sentiment while at Ft Hood in TX, and again at Ft Drum NY. At Ft Drum soldiers were actually the target of state troopers. I can't tell you how many of my soldiers, myself included were pulled over multiple times and given tickets for nothing.

With the current state of the world I had hoped this had changed, but I guess it's the same old thing.

yeah they have bars here that won't let you in with a military ID. and when you pull out your state ID they still don't want to let you in because you are military. So we just go to a better bar

Yeah there was a bar near Ft Drum that had a large sign in the window stating that no military people were allowed.

So it was always empty and the bar next door was always packed...go figure.

Now that I am part of the reserve component, I have become a local. I have no problem with myself.

I encountered this when I was stationed at Pendleton. So I just didn't spend my time around the base. I would go to Temecula or Big Bear and people usually didn't know you were military. They key is to not have a motivator haircut and it's easier to blend.
