The Army has relieved the commander of the 172nd Infantry Brigade, shortly before the unit intensifies its training for an Afghanistan deployment this summer.

Acting V Corps commander Brig. Gen. Allen W. Batschelet said Tuesday that Col. Frank Zachar was relieved of command on Monday, â??â?¦ due to loss of confidence in his ability to command.â??

Batschelet said there was no specific incident that led the Army to relieve Zachar.

â??There werenâ??t any illegal, immoral or unethical activities,â?? he said. â??His (Zacharâ??s) leadership style wasnâ??t really effective and over time the command here lost confidence in his ability to command.â??

Interesting...I know some guys who used to work on staff with him and said there is no suprise there.

After all the issues that came out of 5 SBCT , I think GO's are trying to nip BCT Commanders before there is an issue.

From what I understand of this particular issue, I would have to agree with you that this was no surprise. Of course, I have no first hand knowledge or experience in this particular matter by which to base an educated opinion, but the concensus seems to imply that this one was actually a good decision.
