Hopefully nobody minds but I think this thread could be good. Idea is post any upcoming competition you're training for or thinking about training for. Sharing ideas on how to train for competitions. Then we can post our results up later.
I'm going to train for the Warrior Dash in Florida on 1/29/2011. I'll be starting training on October 12th (after my sister's wedding)
I'm looking for advice on how to implement a running / fartlek program without losing all the weight I've worked at putting on and while still being able to squat without causing knee injuries.

Try and limit your running on pavement. It's harder on your shins and knees. If you can find a rubber (tire) track to run on, or even a golf course that you could run around on, it would be easier on your knees. Obviously, if you're running a lot more you're going to be burning a lot more calories. You'll have to up your intake by a good 400-500 at least daily, though hopefully your appetite will increase as well.

I have an Oly meet in November, the Mid-A's at Mike Gattone's gym here in IL. The guy was the women's weightlifting coach for the 2000 Olympics so that's cool.
Looking to hit a 260 snatch, 300 c&j for the third attempts.

Man if only T-Nation mods could give BOI its own calendar where members can post upcoming events on, that would be pretty damn sweet. If you're reading this mods, and I know you are, get on it kktnx :)
Blaze - I was thinking of buying a pair of inline skates or if I can figure out the molding process inline speed skates and training that way. It would be harder to do fartlek with skates on and obviously isn't a direct carry over but it would be a lot easier on the knees. Any opinion on this?

Hmm. I can't see an easy way to get your heart rate up on inline skates. Even on a flat plane you'll be gliding every so often. Unless you plan on inline skating uphill (which sounds like a potential risk), I can't really see a major benefit.
Fartlek is having your heartrate between 60-80% of max heart rate, right? I can't really see that happening with inlines. I'd stick with getting some good running shoes and running either on grass or a rubber track.
Another option would be using elliptical machines if you're worried about your knees. While the actual running carryover is arguable, the cardio you can get from an elliptical is pretty good with minimal impact on the knees.
Reading the description it sounds like you will have mostly steady state interspersed with occassional obstactles. If you wanted to closely imitate the conditions I'd recommend finding a good place to run with at least one big hill. If you hit the hill a couple times in the middle of your training you'll probably get as close as you can to replicating some of the conditions you'll be undergoing.

What's your goal, Ender? Finishing that thing while having fun or placing really high? And is it more important to you than your gym goals?
IIRC, fartlek is a swedish word (that no Swede has ever used) that means that you start running really fast every now and then (and what separates it from interval training is that it's random or by feel instead of planned).
If you want to get good at running, run. I've never used this approach myself, but some like intervals (or fartlek) could be the solution to your particular problem. But I think I remember seeing a pic of the worlds biggest triathlete, Doveofwar, so maybe he should be giving you advice. But state your goal and priorities.

Fish oil and glucosamine (sp?)? Alpha's a good deal heavier than you and he manages to run pretty often (and he really pounds the fish oil). And honestly... isn't the best way to get better at something by doing it?
Anyways on toppic, no competitions for me until I get a car :(

My last Highland Games of the year will be in 3 weeks. I just competed on Saturday, and hit 4 PRs, on top of the 7 PRs at the previous games in July. I really feel like I'm peaking right now. I'd like to PR both hammers and the sheaf at the next games. I'd also really like a PR in the open stone. I've worked that event really hard, but haven't been able to put it all together in competition yet.

I have a meet in seven days, which I'm not very fond about. The reason for this being that I've had a cold for over a week now. This is a bench press meet only and the second biggest after the nationals. Since I won this years nationals, I also would like to win this meet, but I don't know how much the cold have set me back. I would like to hit about 440lbs in the -181, but I'm more likely to end up with 410-420...

KU's Strength Club is doing one of our own crazy meets. It's called "Super Training", I think. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but I think it's a max lift on; clean and jerk, squat/front squat, bench, and deadlift. Something like that, but they may be more exercises. I'll probably do it just for fun, and to see where I'm at with my total. My goal was to get 1000 before I graduated in May 2012, but I think I'm already there lol :)

I can't wait to see the bench vids. Have you decided on a ballpark number for your opening bench?

I'm doing the SPF Fall Madness full power meet in Dallas on Nov. 6th. I will compete raw(belt, knee, and wrist wraps) in the 308s most likely. I will weigh whatever I weigh, as I don't know enough about this whole making weight thing to try doing anything with it at this point. This will be my first meet since high school about 7-8 years ago. I will be happy with getting a total.

Well, I don't have a powerlifting meet scheduled in the near future, but I am going to compete in a natural bodybuilding competition in October of 2011. I am looking at either the Cape Cod Natural which is on October 8th or the Yorton Cup which is on October 29th.
