Am I the only nostalgic mofo on this site? What the fuck happened to the once proud brotherhood of iron? When did this once bound by a thirst for growth and hunger for improvement bunch of hardcore animals get infiltrated by a bunch of pussified moronic cry babies?

I spent this morning replying to threads about people being threatened in the parking lot because they were using someone's piece of gym equipment, guys refusing to spot one another in the gym and people actually defending this mindless bullshit. Tell me there is hope after all and the glory days will be once more.

I used to walk into a gym and hang around the big boys just to pick up a tip or two. I trained for years before I finally mustered up enough nerves to ask the biggest guy in the gym in the gym if I could please train with him.

The majority of these wannabe lifters nowadays have no fucking respect for the game anymore and are just taking up gym space if you ask me. Why the fuck do you look surprised when I tell you to get the fuck out my way when you are talking to your girl on your cell phone?

If a guy, who is in the midst of a serious work out, asks you to spot him, you spot him when you are ready to do so. And even if he doesn?t ask you, if he gets crushed under a weight and you are nearby, you spot him.

When some young kid comes to you and asks you a few things, don?t be a total jackass and tell him a few basic things to get him on his way.

When someone is just fucking around, tell him to do things right or go home. If you are serious and want to learn, I have no problem helping you along, just come correct and respect those who have come before you.

It is about time we clean this shit up, I am on a fucking war path to grow and improve and will not be taking any prisoners.

Deadlift (Conventional)

135 x some
225x5
275x3
315x3
365x1
405 x miss (^#(%^)@%$)
315x10 (deficit, straps, touch and go)

This is pathetic. Trying to pull conventional was a mistake. I tried it sumo and got it, so it's clear to me now which style is best for me. Going back to sumo. Had to leave early because my dad is my ride and he had clients coming in. I'll try to keep my head up; I've done a lot more with sumo and I'll do it again.

Military press - Week 4
Friday 11/4/11

Military press
somex95, 115, 135, 155
6x3x155

DB row (deadstop)
3x10x120

These were rather meh. Grip felt weak and the DB handles were thicker than normal.

DB bench
20, 12, 10x80s

Good stuff. PR of sorts. Definitely did better this week, probably b/c I'm getting accustomed to the movement. By the last set my chest was screaming. Banch pruss PR, I'm coming for you.

EZ bar preachers
3x8xbar+30

fml i sux @ curlz.

I seem to look good in the locker room mirrors. I should frequent them more often.

bench press- hand hurts like hell but casting the hand on the heavy sets seem to help. it really only hurt really bad on the 585 and 600lb board set. tonight was the first night of the new bench cycle. it isn't fancy but i like it and it will hopefully bump my bench up some. tonight was a good base to build upon.

the bench we use is in bad shape. i need to find a pad that's wider with some grip. the one we have is too narrow and actually leans to the right. on my heavy sets you can see me lean to the right. it freak'n sucks.

four board bench press
225x6
315x6
405x6
495x3
545x1
585x1
600x1- this is a good start.

bench press touch and go
225x1
315x1
405x1
455x1
495x1- felt easy considering everything i did before this.

close grip bench press- feet up
315x6
365x6
405x3

good start to the cycle.

Well didn't really do RDC today. Weather was too nice out so about halfway through my session the guys that were squatting went to pull the sled and I joined them.

CGBP - really coming along
45 x 10
95 x 10
135 x 10
185 x 5
185 x 5
185 x 5
185 x 5
185 x 5

Incline DB Press
30 lbers x 10
50 lbers x 10
50 lbers x 10
50 lbers x 10

Front Raises / Hammer Curls
5 lbers x 10 / 30 x 10
15 lbers x 10 / 45 x 10
30 lbers x 6 / 45 x 10
25 lbers x 10

Cancelled and went to pull sled

After sled I decided to try some exercises I saw Madtitan post on his youtube feed. I really like both. I posted the videos below for reference.

Pull-Over+Press
55 lbs x 10
55 lbs x 10
55 lbs x 10

Haymaker
45 lbs x I don't know, a lot just getting the feel for it
70 lbs x 10 counting one each on each side as a single rep
70 lbs x 10
70 lbs x 10

I didn't do the squat part, mostly because I didn't remember it had that but I really like both exercises and will certainly do them again.

Pull-Over + Press

Enders, i think those are clubells. They can be used for shoulder mobility and various core work as well as various other things. Louie simmons has a couple of videos with what he calls indian clubs, which are pretty much the same thing, just a different size/shape.

Military press deload:

Military press:bar*10,95*5,95*5,115*5

Side cable laterals:4*10

Prowler pushin:25yards for 5 trips with 270lbs

Throughout the workout i did between 150-200 band pullaparts. I also did alot of rotator cuff work. Shoulders feel pretty good right now. Today was more of a recovery/get blood flowing type of day. Shoulders were really tight and upper back was full of knots.

Bench
Bar x11
60kg x3

108kg x3 x 8 sets

Speed Squat
60kg x3
90kg x3
108kg x3 x 8 sets

walkouts
225kg x 20 secs

Squat 150kg x3 (speed to spare, fuck yeah)

bench technique felt terrible for the first 5 working sets and felt much better on sets 6, 7 and 8.

Heracles - that makes a lot more sense lol. Now that you mention it I don't know what clubells are but I do remember seeing a video on Indian Clubs one time. Still would be fun to juggle though

11/4/11 Push press. Pretty good day.

VIDEO

Warmups, stretches, jumps and so on.

Cleans from the hang: up to 251X for 2 sets.

Push press;

135X8
185X5
The above were strict,

work sets:

70% 205X3
80% 235X3
90% 265X8 so.... holding my breath for the first 4 reps proved to be a not very smart choice. Breathing properly probably would have led to a few extra reps, but oh well. All 8 felt good.

one arm DB push press from floor:

75X5
100X5
125X3
150X3 Slowly correcting my imbalance. Right arm felt very good and I probably had a few more reps with it. Left one,.... not so much. Might have had one more rep there. I always seem to forget to do my left arm first on these, when I'm a little fresher. Probably just going to have to write myself a note in my log before I head to the gym, but I bet I forget that too. I may push these for reps in the future(my gyms DBs stop at 150) of do some strict/seated pressing here going forward.

Pendlay Rows:

251X5 for 5 sets.

Seated alt. DB curls, flat tri DB press combo set:

10 curls, then 25 tri presses for 3 sets, minimal rest.

Face pulls:

someXsome for 3X10

Meat, what exactly is the purpose of benching with your feet up? I always thought that it was just a little silly thing that some people did when they bench. Does it kind of act like the bench equivalent to a savickas press?

Been stupid busy lately, hence the lack of posting.

List of high points:

Matched my deadlift PR at 215 lbs weighing 178 lbs (405x5) and did it in my romaleos.
Squatted 355x5 ass to hamstrings with a close stance and belt only.
Ran a 4.6 40.

List of low points:
Level 2 sprain of my right MCL. Walking on crutches.

it isolates the pecs and triceps much better. it forces the upper body to do all the work...just makes it harder. i like to do some of my accessory work this way. feet up flattens the back out and places all the stress on the pecs and triceps. i wouldn't do it with heavy sets.

thanks hoss... just trying to keep my head above water.

in my twenties i was in full on bodybuilding mode. my bench sucked. i actually didn't bench with a bar because i was so embarassed of how weak i was. i never benched more than 275lbs until i was 30. when i started powerlifting i started at about a 275lb bench. my squat was okay..about 495 for reps. my deadlift sucked.. maybe 405 with, i'm sure, horrible form. i didn't really start focusing on strength until about 6 years ago.

WhiteFlash wrote:
Why the limited access? Is it the athletes weightroom that "regular" students are allowed in during designated hours?

It's actually more like a class weight room that certain classes have access to. I think the faculty has their own hours for access as well, and we have our "strength club" hours 4 days a week. I know they do studies in this room, also. I was in a study at one point, but bailed the day it started lol. I went in to test my maxes and had to drop out the day it started because they did a muscle biopsy that I was NOT cool with. I walked in and saw a few guys sitting around with curtains around them getting muscle extracted from their leg and I about passed out lol.

Hey guys. My first BOI workout, thankfully I hit a big PR.

Deadlift
2x132x5
176x5
220x3
253x3
286x3
319x1
363x1 (11 lbs PR)
385x1 (33 lbs PR)

Felt great today, great speed of the floor, but my grip is horrible. I need some chalk.

Leg Curl
2x55x10
60x10
2x66x10

Front Squat (With straps)
2x132x5
3x154x5

Been a while since I front squatted, my elbows kept dropping. It will be better next time.

All and all a good workout and a massive PR.
Glad to be a member of the group. (If anyone finds the GIF annoying please tell me and I will find a picture that's not moving)
