Tim Henriques: @Menno cont - I am not sure I buy your argument of why RDL's (a good exercise for sure) would be more beneficial than deads when the weight is significantly greater in deads, the ROM for most muscles is greater, and most other things are relatively equal. What factors have you putting the RDL as being better for size than the conventional deadlift? Thanks for your time

Christian Thibaudeau: @ corst... regular abs work will NOT prepare you for the rings at all. That's one thing I learned the hard way! Dragon flag work, hollow rock, leg raises, L-sit are all exercises you should work on

Christian Thibaudeau: @ Chig... rings are a great tool. But they cannot simply be added to one of the old programs. These programs are already very high in volume and demanding on the CNS. Adding rings require a decrease in lifting volume.

Menno Henselmans: Tim Henriques: Could you provide a link to your article? I'd love to read it. As for the deadlift, for all the muscles you mentioned, RDL > deadlift. On a side note, I wouldn't perform the deadlift with active back extension/rounding (I assume that's what you mean with erectors as agonist?). That's extremely harsh on the spine.

Menno Henselmans: -Sigil-: Closed chain reigns supreme. No recovery concerns, just respect the microloadability principle if you want to do a lot of body weight stuff.

Menno Henselmans: Id13: It's tissue stress distribution. The rings are way easier on your joints than fixed bars. I don't recommend doing them, but if you insist, use rings.

forkknifespoon: Also, I don't understand the 'anecdotal' note about there being tons of guys who can dead heavy that are small, but only huge guys are doing heavy chin ups and squats. From my past years working alongside pro athletes that's simply not 'anecdotally' true. And I'm talking real weights not some limp dick 405 dead...

forkknifespoon: I also enjoy when other authors get in on the spills. Is the argument against conventional deads that they are too taxing on recovery for the benefits to be worth it? In that case some people just need to nut up with this recovery stuff or maybe cut down on the volume. But I'm assuming I'm missing more crucial factors weighing against the dead, maybe Menno could give a concise summation of the negatives for us dummies.
